Building Your Own Recording Studio Print E-mail

Okay so you got your band together and you're ready to save up some cash to hit the recording studio. STOP! DO NOT PASS GO! Put that money back in your pocket. For the cost of a few sessions at a professional studio, you can build one in your garage, walk in closet, basement or tool shed.

Here's everything you're gonna need to get started...

A Laptop

For a home studio, this is your hub, your console. This is where you mix your tracks and fine tune them. Heck, it doubles as a synthesizer if you want to download some cool software. Now, what type of laptop should you be getting? Who cares? Any laptop that produces good sound, take your pick. You can get a decent used rig to mix sound with for less than a hundred bucks.

Some Recording Equipment

What type of recording equipment? Again, it doesn't matter. Start with some basic recording stuff, some cheap used mics and amps, and slowly build up your collection as you go and learn more about the art of studio production.

Some Egg Cartons, Foam Padding or Mattresses

Something to soundproof your home studio. Cardboard egg cartons actually work pretty well, and all you need is a staple gun and an hour of free time. This keeps your sound in the studio, and outside sounds out of the studio.

Is it really that simple? Yeah, it is. If you shop around a bit you can get set up for a couple hundred bucks. If you maybe trade an old guitar you don't play anymore for some equipment, if you just dig through the trash for soundproofing material, you can even set the studio up for free.

Now quit procrastinating by browsing the internet for advice on recording music, and get to work actually recording music!
