| An Introduction To The Workings Of A Recording Studio |
|

|
A facility where everything is geared toward recording of sounds is known as a recording studio. Such a space is normally designed for its acoustic properties which help to ensure that the sounds recorded will not be spoiled by unnecessary extraneous sounds. There are different uses for the recording studio including to record music being played by bands and by individual artists as well as to facilitate voiceover and music for television programs. In essence, such a studio has a room in it that is referred to as a studio in which musicians will perform their music. In addition, there is also another room known as the control room which holds all the required equipment for recording and routing as well as manipulating sound. In addition, there may be a few other small sized rooms that are referred to as isolation booths in which musicians that play their music loudly are able to do so. These rooms ensure that the loud sounds being played are not audible to the microphones that are used to capture sounds from other instruments. Some of the equipment that is used in these studios includes the mixing console, multitrack recorder, microphones and a few reference monitors. In addition, there are also digital audio workstations, music workstations as well as compressors, equalizers or reverbs that will be used in these studios. In the early days, these studios were rather basic and bare because of the fact that most sounds that were to be recorded were acoustic and not electric. Then, in the thirties, electrical sound recording became the norm and this gave rise to the need to use electrically driven mastering lathes. Also, prior to the eighties, most recording was done with analog signals whereas today, the modern methods of recording sounds have changed and become much more advanced with digital formats leading the way forward. |
